Trail-Access Logistics — Four Different Areas
Petroglyph National Monument is spread across four distinct trail-access areas, each with its own parking lot and ranger station: (1) Boca Negra Canyon (the visitor entrance off Unser Blvd, paved trails, family-friendly, ~250 carvings visible) — the standard first-time visitor pick; (2) Rinconada Canyon (off Unser Blvd, 2.2-mile loop hike, ~300 carvings, moderate difficulty) — the photographer's choice for fewer crowds and better sunrise/sunset light; (3) Piedras Marcadas Canyon (off Golf Course Rd, 1.5-mile hike, the highest-density carvings) — for visitors wanting the deeper experience; (4) Volcano Day Use Area (off Atrisco Vista Blvd, climb routes up the volcanic cones) — for hikers who want the geological side of the monument. Our chauffeurs know which trail head pairs with which visitor type.
